Daily Trivia – 5/17/11

Question: On A Different World, what Star Search-winning comedian played Coach Walter Oakes?

Last Question: In what sitcom did Sherman Hemsley play the deacon of a Philadelphia church?

Answer: Amen

Amen aired on NBC from September 27, 1986 to May 11, 1991. It was part of a wave of successful sitcoms on NBC in the 1980s which featured entirely or almost-entirely black casts, including The Cosby Show, A Different World, and 227.

Sherman Hemsley played Deacon Ernest Frye, of the First Community Church of Philadelphia. He was always getting in trouble with his many harebrained schemes. Anna Maria Horsford played Deacon Frye’s 36-year-old spinster daughter, Thelma Frye. She would eventually go on to marry Reverend Reuben Gregory (Clifton Davis), the new, young pastor of the First Community Church who Thelma had a crush on.
