30 Day Song Challenge: Day 8 – A Song That You Know All the Words To

“Metal Health” by Quiet Riot

I was considering a Kenny G song for this, but I suppose that would be cheating.

Before there were liner notes and lyrics in cassettes, the only way you could memorize the words was if you listened to the song over and over. When “Metal Health” came out, a friend and I wrote the lyrics out. We would play it for a few words, then stop it to write down the words. If we couldn’t understand what they were saying, we would keep rewinding and play it over again. It’s way easier to get song lyrics now.

  1. Definitely a lot easier to get lyrics now!
I learned the lyrics to my song, The Police’s “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” the old fashioned way – by listening to it over and over.
A year or so before we got married, my soon-to-be wife and I were visiting friends in Baltimore. Her girlfriend and I were singing along to the song quite loudly, mildly annoying the other folks in the car. The driver turned off the radio, but we kept singing. At various times he’d turn it back on and we’d never missed a beat, even during all the “eee-oooh-oh”s. The others were still mildly annoyed, but quite impressed at the same time.

    1. I love that story, Jim! I actually didn’t have an full Police albums on my iPod for some reason. But this weekend, I was in a music store, and came across Every Breath You Take: The Singles gor around $5, so I bought it. So it’s funny that you brought that song up.
