Daily Trivia – 8/17/11

Question: What Whitney Houston single was originally written for a movie about Muhammad Ali’s life?

Last Question: What short-lived, much-ridiculed series centered on a criminologist who was “sole heir to the secret link that binds man ans animal”?

Answer: Manimal

Manimal only ran from September 30 to December 17, 1983, but for some reason, I still remember it being on.

The series featured the story of Dr Jonathan Chase, a shape-shifter who could turn himself into any animal he chose, and used this ability to help fight crime. Only two people were aware of Jonathan’s secret, his friend Ty Earl and Police Detective Brooke Mackenzie. Jonathan and Ty would assist Brooke with a case she was working on, with Jonathan transforming himself into an animal when it became useful.

Even though he could transform into different animals, he always seemed to transform into a hawk or a panther. I suppose the hawk and panther actors had really good agents!

One amazing thing was that before the guy transformed, he would be wearing a three-piece suit. Then when he transformed back into human form, his clothes were back on him, unscathed.
Gaffes like that may have been a reason for the show’s demise. Of course, if the network had paid attention, and realized that The Wonder Twins ruined the Superfriends, they may not have aired Manimal to begin with.

Here is the opening to the show:
