Daily Trivia – 9/14/11

Question: Who nabbed an Emmy for his role as Crockett and Tubbs’ crusty boss, Lieutenant Castillo?

Last Question: What morphing toy brand was Tonka’s answer to Transformers?

Answer: GoBots

Gobots were produced by Tonka from 1983 to 1987. While the Transformers had Autobots and Decepticons, the Gobots had the Guardians and Renegades. The Gobots sold well at first. But, the Transformers overtook them.

Just as the Transformers had their own cartoon series, the Gobots had their own as well – Challenge of the GoBots. Hanna Barbera produced the Gobots cartoon, which aired just a week before the Transformers cartoon. The series generally focused on the “lead” three robots from each faction (Leader-1, Turbo and Scooter vs. Cy-Kill, Cop-Tur and Crasher).

1987 was the final year in which new Gobots were released. In 1991, Hasbro acquired the Gobots range from Tonka Inc.

Maybe they should include the Gobots in the new Transformers franchise!
