Before “Rebel Yell”, “White Wedding”, and “Eyes Without a Face”, Billy Idol was in the punk rock band Generation X. Unlike their fellow punk rockers, Generation X was influenced by ’60s pop music. They were also one of the first punk bands to appear on the BBC Television music show Top of the Pops. In the late ’70s early ’80s, there was internal disagreements about the direction the band was going in. They didn’t know whether they wanted to get more heavy or not. Billy Idol did pretty well for himself in his solo career, scoring many hits, and becoming a staple on MTV.
