Last Question: What London eatery expanded to the U.S. in 1982, with an L.A. outlet co-owned by Tom Cruise, Willie Nelson, Steven Spielberg, and Henry Winkler?
Hard Rock Cafe
The first Hard Rock Cafe opened in London, England in 1971. It was founded by young Americans Peter Morton and Isaac Tigrett. It started with an eclectic decor but then started to display memorabilia. Over the years it has amassed one of the largest collections of rock and roll memorabilia in the world.
In 1982, the Hard Rock Cafe expanded worldwide. In 2006, Hard Rock was sold to the Seminole Tribe of Florida, and is headquartered in Orlando, Florida. The largest Hard Rock is in Orlando. Currently, there are 150 Hard Rock locations in 53 countries.
The first time I ever went into a Hard Rock Cafe was with a group of people in New York in the late ’80s. I didn’t really know too much about it at the time. So when I went in, I was blown away! Instead of boring “elevator” music, Rock music, that I loved, was being played. The food wasn’t bad either. But, the highlight for me was walking around the restaurant checking out all the memorabilia. There were guitars hanging on walls, and stage outfits that were worn by the real artists were all over the place. Music fans need to go to a Hard Rock Cafe at least once in their lives.
