One Hit Wonders of the ’80s: 1989 – Boys Club

“I Remember Holding You” by Boys Club

Boys Club was the duo of Gene Hunt and Joe Pasquale from Minneapolis, Minnesota. They both have stated that George Michael was a major influence on each of them – and it shows. Their sound made them regarded as “Minnesota’s version of WHAM!.”
Before Boys Club, Gene Hunt was a member of the family group, The Jets.

Boys Club was the first group to appear on the New Mickey Mouse Club as a musical guest during the first episode.

But, the duo only had one hit song, “I Remember Holding You”, which peaked all the way at #8 on January 14, 1989. Here is their hit:

Yeah, I can hear the Wham influence for sure…even that sax has some definite Careless Whisper-ishness to it.

    1. The first thing I thought when I heard this was how much this sounds like “Careless Whisper”. I didn’t remember this song at all. I kind of like it.
