Daily Trivia: 7/17/12

Question: What CBS daytime soap opera debuted in 1987 and focused on the “Forrester” fashion empire?

Last Question: Which star of Leonard Part 6 appeared on talk shows to denounce the movie?

Answer: Bill Cosby

Bill Cosby, at the height of his Cosby Show fame, writes, produces, and stars in a new feature film. Wow, it sounds like it’s going to be a blockbuster hit, right? Wrong! Even though Cosby was heavily involved with Leonard Part 6, upon the film’s release in 1987, he went on a crusade advising people not to waste their money on it. The result was the $24 million film only grossed around $4.5 million.

The movie won three Golden Raspberry Awards, for Worst Actor (Cosby), Worst Picture, and Worst Screenplay (Jonathan Reynolds and Cosby). It was nominated for two more Razzie Awards, for Worst Supporting Actress (Gloria Foster) and Worst Director (Paul Weiland). For the 2005 Razzies, the movie earned a nomination in the Worst “Comedy” of Our First 25 Years category.

Here is Siskel & Ebert reviewing the movie. For some reason, I get the impression that they didn’t like it either:

  1. Answer: The Bold And The Beautiful
Funny, my mom was visiting today, and I had that show on for her. She’s been watching it from the beginning.

I went to see Leonard Part 6, obviously without knowledge of Mr. Cosby’s crusade. Wish I would have known!

    1. You just made me crack up! I guess you lost a couple of hours of your life that you’ll never get back! I never saw that movie. I think Bill Cosby even bought the rights to the movie so that he could prevent it from airing on TV. I forgot to throw that tidbit in there.

Oh, and you got the trivia right too! I didn’t realize that the show was still on the air. So many have gotten axed lately. I grew up with my mom watching the NBC soaps, especially Days of Our Lives. And now my wife watches Days of Our Lives, and a lot of the same characters are still around!

      1. A lot of the B&B cast are still on there. I remember them, because I absorbed some of the show while talking with Mom and waiting for the mail to arrive (I was corresponding with a pen pal back then, so I was usually looking out the living room window during the show). Hard to believe it’s been 25 years.
