I love these posts that Martha Quinn has on Facebook. Here is what she said:
Desert Island pick! Which SiriusXM Big 80s on 8 countdown do you choose: 1981 or 1983?? Share which songs tip the scales!
So, let’s have it! What is your pick? This was a very tough one! I went with ’83. This was the year I finally got my MTV. The first time I ever saw Olivia Newton-John perform “Physical“, I had the biggest crush that I ever had in my life at that point. So, ’81 scores some sentimental points with me on that one. However, “Twist of Fate” is one of my favorite ONJ songs. Also “Synchronicity II” is one of my favorite Police tunes, so ’83 scores some points there. And of course “Cum On Feel the Noize” pretty much defined my musical taste throughout the ’80s.
And basically everything from 22 through #1 on the ’83 list was a staple on MTV. As I mentioned, we had just gotten cable TV and MTV that year. So even though some of them have been overplayed over the years, they were nice and fresh back then.
Please don’t be shy! Let’s hear what you have to say about these two countdowns.

Man, I don’t know if I can decide! ’81 has “I Can’t Go For That” while ’83 has “In A Big Country.” Let me ponder this for a while…
Well, I went with ’81. I can’t go for “The Curley Shuffle,” no can do…
’81 was promising to me. Paul Davis, George Benson, Christopher Cross, Journey. But then it had go and get ruined by Barbra Streisand! She’s my Curly Shuffle. 🙂
I like both… both have equal number of songs that I’m familiar with and I like. In fact, if not for Say, Say, Say, I’d actually choose ’81. XD
I’m with you! They both have a lot of great songs. I still like “Say, Say, Say”.
