Hi Everybody! It’s that time of year again! This will be the 3rd annual Return to the ’80s March Madness. If you are new to this site, each year one artist is chosen for the March Madness Tournament. We pit their own hit songs against each other. There will be a slight change this year. In previous years, voting was done on the web site right here, as well as Twitter, and Facebook. This year, we are going to keep things simple, and keep all the voting done right here.
The first year featured Hall & Oates, and last year featured Prince.
This year, we feature one of the biggest icons of the ’80s – Madonna! The only problem is that she had too many big hits in the ’80s! I like to start each tournament with the Sweet Sixteen. So, a Wild Card round will take place in order to fill the final slot.
This poll will be left open for a full week. It will close at noon next Monday, March 9.
Here are the songs that will be doing battle this week. You can vote on the poll at the bottom. You can click on the song title to get the YouTube video
Angel
This was the third single released off of the Like a Virgin album. This was Madonna’s fifth Top-5 single on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #5, and reached the top of its dance charts.
Dress You Up
This was the final single released off of the Like a Virgin album. It would peak at number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and number 34 on Adult Contemporary, number three on Hot Dance Club Songs and number 64 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Holiday
This was the third single released from Madonna’s self-titled debut album. It became Madonna’s first mainstream hit single in the United States, peaking at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also became her first top-ten single in several countries, including Australia, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
Causing a Commotion
This is the most successful song, commercially, of the bunch here. It was the second single released off of the Who’s That Girl soundtrack, peaking at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Dance Club Songs chart.
This is just the Wild Card round, folks! If you think this is tough, wait til the full tournament begins! Which song would you like to see in the main tournament? Vote below, and please spread the word to your friends! There are a lot of Madonna fans from a younger generation who may not be all that familiar with most 80s music, but do know Madonna’s 80s music.
Thanks so much!
