Radio Ga Ga by Queen

So don’t become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don’t know or just don’t care
And just complain when you’re not there
You had your time, you had the power
You’ve yet to have your finest hour

The following is from TV Guide:

Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora has checked into rehab, but it will not affect the band’s upcoming North American and European tour.

“Our support for Richie is absolute. He is, and will remain, a member of Bon Jovi. Although he will be absent from upcoming shows for the time being, we very much look forward to his healthy return,” the band said in a statement. “In the meantime, we will keep our commitment to our fans and continue our tour.”

Wind Beneath My Wings by Sheena Easton:

Did you ever know that you’re my hero?
And everything I’d like to be,
I can fly Higher than an Eagle

Here is the Bonus:

It’s Tricky by Run D.M.C.

I met this little girlie, her hair was kinda curly
Went to her house and bust her out, I had to leave real early
These girls are really sleazy, all they just say is please me
Or spend some time and rock a rhyme, I said “It’s not that easy”
It’s Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that’s right on time

Music Video of the Week – 4/27/11

In honor of Ace Frehley’s 60th birthday today, this week’s selection is “I Love It Loud”, which was the last Kiss video that featured Frehley:

“I Love It Loud”, which came off of Kiss’ 1982 album, Creatures of the Night. This was also the last video that featured Kiss in their famous make-up before unmasking in 1983. This was also the last Kiss single to feature Simmons on lead vocals until “God Gave Rock ‘N’ Roll to You II” in 1991, and the last to feature Simmons as the sole lead vocalist until “Unholy” in 1992. He was however the lead singer of every song on the ‘B’ side of every single they did through the “Crazy Nights” album.

Return the Song, Artist and Lyrics

Today’s artist is celebrating a birthday today. This song was a #1 hit (and more popular) by somebody else. But this Scottish songstress wasn’t too shabby herself. Can you name the artist(s) song and finish the lyrics:

Did you ever know that you’re my hero?
And everything I’d like to be,
I can fly ______ ____ __ _____

Here’s a bonus one that may be more difficult. This is from a rap trio:

I met this little girlie, her hair was kinda curly
Went to her house and bust her out, I had to leave real early
These girls are really sleazy, all they just say is please me
Or spend some time and rock a rhyme, I said “It’s not that easy”

Weird Al/Lady Gaga Saga

Last week, there was a lot of controversy going on between Weird Al Yankovic and Lady Gaga. Weird Al recorded a parody of Gaga’s “Born This Way”, called “Perform This Way”. Apparently, she refused to grant permission for him to release the song. Several news sites and blogs (not this one) jumped all over the news.

If I found out this was true, I was ready to rip her like crazy this week. But as it turns out, Lady Gaga did not reject the song.

Here is an update from E! Online:

A few weeks ago, the Weird One decided, much to the Internet’s delight, to make Gaga his next parody subject. So he wrote up some lyrics, sent over a pitch and waited. And waited.

Incidentally, while Yankovic’s parodies are all protected under fair-use and no approval from the artists is necessary, he has always sought a blessing from the singers he spoofs.

He finally heard back from Team Gaga, informing him that the superstar would need to hear the tune before signing off. So he sent over the lyrics. And was informed that she would actually need to hear the finished product before offering her magnanimous blessing.

So he did. And sent it over. And was rejected.

Down but not out, Al decided to respect Gaga’s rejection, telling fans “nobody is more disappointed than I am”—and instead of including it on his album as his lead single, as he was hoping to do, he instead leaked it online and made it available for free download.

It was an immediate sensation and, as one might’ve been able to predict, eventually found its way to Lady Gaga’s ears.

For the first time.

Turns out, it was her manager who had been making the crazy demands under the guise of doing so on Gaga’s behalf, who, as it turns out, knew absolutely nothing of Weird Al’s requests.

“Apparently the fact that she didn’t approve it was news to Lady Gaga herself!” he blogged. “Gaga’s manager has now admitted that he never forwarded my parody to Gaga—she had no idea at all. Even though we assumed that Gaga herself was the one making the decision (because, well, that’s what we were TOLD), he apparently made the decision completely on his own.

“He’s sorry. And Gaga loves the song.”

As a result, the song will indeed be released as Yankovic’s first single and, more excitingly, will soon be filmed as his album’s debut music video. All proceeds from both will go to the Human Rights Campaign.

“I truly respect and admire Gaga as an artist and it pained me to think of her as having less than a great sense of humor,” he wrote. “Thank you, Gaga. And thanks to everybody who had my back.”

Here is Weird Al’s song:

Against my better judgment this time, here is Lady Gaga’s song in case you want to compare. But you may like this if you just listen to the song, and pretend that it is a late ’80s Madonna song.

New Journey Song – “City of Hope”

Journey released “City of Hope” from their upcoming album “Eclipse”.

From the band’s official site:

“Eclipse” will be released on Scarecrow Records in Mexico, WET Music in Brazil and D.B.N. in the rest of Latin America.

The first single from “Eclipse” in South America will be “Human Feel”, also available digitally from April 4th. Online stores carrying the new single include iTunes and Telcel in Mexico, Claro, Telefonica and Comcel in Colombia, and Porta in Ecuador.

“Eclipse” will be released on May 27th, with the “Eclipse Tour” kicking off with major arena shows in the UK and Eire together with Foreigner and Styx. The tour also visits Germany, Switzerland, Benelux, Scandinavia, France and – for the first time ever – Italy, before the North American tour which starts in mid-July.

Here is the song, “City of Hope”. I am a huge Journey fan, and if you told me that Steve Perry was the lead vocals on this song, I might actually believe you:

Music Video of the Week – 4/20/11

This week’s selection is “Calling On You” by Stryper:

I always loved this Christian glam metal band. Their music always made me feel good. The music itself rocks, and Michael Sweet’s vocals are incredible. “Calling On You” was the first song I heard by them, and it is still one of my favorites. It came off of their second album, To Hell With the Devil, which is a great album. I don’t think my parents were too happy about me owning an album with the words “Hell” and “Devil” in it. But, it was a cool album name, which drew attention. The album was released in 1986, and was both the first Contemporary Christian and Christian metal album to achieve Platinum status, selling over one million copies. It remains the best-selling Christian metal album of all time.
