James “Bonecrusher” Smith won the WBA championship from Tim Witherspoon in December 1986. In March 1987 Smith put up his WBA belt against Tyson’s WBC belt in Las Vegas, Nevada as part of a unification tournament.
This came to be known as one of the most boring matches in boxing history. Mike Tyson kept trying to hit Smith, but Smith just kept holding him. Finally, in the last 30 seconds of the match, Smith decided to start boxing. But, it was too late. Tyson won by decision.
