To make you all mine, all mine is my desire
‘Cause you contain a quality, you that I admire
You’re pretty plain and simple, you rule my world
So try to understand
I’m in love, girl
Seems nothin’ ever changes
We’re back to being strangers
Wondering if we ought to stay
Or head on out the door
Last Song: “I Don’t Know” by Ozzy Osbourne from the album Blizzard of Oz (1980) in honor of legendary guitarist, Randy Rhoads, who would have turned 60 yesterday.
If you were alive 30 years ago today, then you were glued to MTV right now. This was our generation’s Woodstock. Or was Woodstock the hippie generation’s bong-watered down version of Live Aid? In any case, just about every great artist from ’80s, for all genres, performed today in either England or Philadelphia. There was also somebody who played live in both places. Here are some great quotes from that day, that I found on imdb. And we will close out with one of the greatest performances of all-time. I’m sure you already know what it is before you even scroll down.
Richard Skinner: It’s 12 noon in London, 7am in Philadelphia, and around the world it’s time for Live Aid. Wembley welcomes their Royal Highnesses, the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Adam Ant: There are many of my heroes here. People I’ve worshiped from afar.
Ozzy Osbourne: I came here to play music, and I didn’t really realize the full extent and magnitude of what it is all about. Now I’m here, it’s the greatest event ever.
Tina Turner: It was the most electrifying feeling, being there – no other reason than the cause. I wish I could do even more.
Mike Jagger: I came to play in Philadelphia because of the cause, because of Live Aid, of course. But I also came to have myself a good time. And I’ve sure as hell done that.
Dionne Warwick: They say the entertainment industry can never get together. Fooled them again, didn’t we?
Sting: This is what rock and roll is all about. It’s an event as much as its music.
Bryan Adams: I’m just proud to be here. I’m a Canadian and tears are not enough. Let’s all do what we can for Live Aid.
Tom Petty: Two minutes before we came on stage, we decided to play “American Girl”, since this is, after all, JFK stadium.
Phil Collins: I was in England this afternoon… funny old world, innit?
Bob Geldof: I’ve just realized that today is the best day of my life. Now I’m going home to sleep.
And we’ll close out with one of the best performances by one of the best bands ever. There is no current artist alive today that can hold the world in the palm of his or her hand like Freddie did that day. Here is the full performance. Enjoy!
Hi Everybody. I’ve been so tired lately, that I can’t concentrate enough to right a decent article. But, I still want to share with you. While sitting at my desk at work all day, I usually either listen to podcasts or music. Today I decided to play some songs on my iPod. As of this second, there are 12,782 songs on my iPod.
So, let’s have some fun. I will hit the ‘Shuffle’ button, and share the first ten songs that get played. I will not skip any, so it is possible that there will be some non-80s songs. The odds are even greater that there will be at least a few ’80s songs on here. Let’s get started. Hopefully, this will not be too embarrassing. Feel free to make fun of me if you want. I stand behind my music! Wait..let me make sure there is no Justin Bieber. Just kidding, I really didn’t need to check. There is a 100% chance that you will NOT hear any Justin Bieber here. I really hope there are songs on here that you will enjoy. And you may even discover new music. Here..We..Go!!
“Heart and Soul (Live)” – Huey Lewis & The News
This was on a Sports special edition that I downloaded from iTunes
“Crazy Train (Live)” by Ozzy Osbourne
From Ozzy’s Live at Budokan album
“Uncle Tom’s Cabin” by Warrant
In my opinion, Warrant is one of the most underrated bands of all time. This is a really good song off of the Cherry Pie album.
“Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough” by Patty Smyth and Don Henley
I still love this song. Can’t get enough of Patty Smyth.
“Mary, Mary” by Run DMC
That’s right, I love Run DMC! Why you buggin’?
“867-5309/Jenny” by Tommy Tutone
The odds are pretty good that there would be at least one ’80s essential on this list.
“Trial By Fire” by Kiss
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite Kiss albums – Asylum
“Black Water” by The Doobie Brothers
What a great song to relax to!
“Love Chaser” by Europe
Here is another underrated hair band. This is a really good song you may not have heard of unless you have The Final Countdown album.
“I Will Not Go Quietly” by Don Henley
Awesome rocker by Henley, with Axl Rose on the backing vocals.
Well that was something completely different. I hope you enjoyed. And phew, nothing embarrassing! I may have to do this again sometime. Let me know what you thought of this article.
And it would be great if you guys listed out some songs that are on your iPod too.
This past Friday, I discovered a channel on my cable system that I never knew I had. I noticed it through the guide on the television, and there was a show called Flashback Friday (or something like that). Then I noticed that coming on at 8:00 was a show called 80s on Eight. Of course I set the DVR to record the show. Could it actually be a show that has ’80s music videos? Sure enough it was!! I got so excited, that I went on Facebook, and posted each video that came on with a brief description.
I had so much fun, that I thought I would share it all here as well.
If you are on Facebook, go ahead and Like Return to the 80s. In addition to linking the articles from this blog, I also share other pages, songs, and pictures that I come across.
For now, you don’t have to be on Facebook to share the Fun Friday I had. Hmm, I had fun Friday watching videos. Boy, I must be getting old!
So, below is what I posted along with each video. Enjoy!
One More Try – George Michael
OK, I just found a television channel that I never knew I had – Cool TV. Does anybody else have it? There is a show on now called 80s on 8 (not to be confused with the Sirius/XM channel). It looks like they show music videos from the ’80s! I am DVRing it now, and just started watching it. I’ll share the videos that are coming on. First up:
What Kind of Fool Am I – Rick Springfield
I’m liking this! As much as I love “Jessie’s Girl”, it’s refreshing to see a different Springfield video:
When You Love a Woman – Journey
Ummm..I thought the show was called 80s at Eight. Hold on, let me check…Yeah, that’s what it’s called. Eh, I’m definitely not going to complain! It is Journey after all. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen this video before. I must have stopped watching MTV by the time this came out:
Close My Eyes Forever – Lita Ford and Ozzy
Oh Yeah!!
Queen of the Broken Hearts – Loverboy
Woo Hoo! Here’s another one! Instead of “Working for the Weekend”, we get something a little different:
Shattered Dreams – Johnny Hates Jazz
There are commercials after a few songs. They should throw in some ’80s commercials. Next up…
King for a Day – XTC
I would never have thought to include this on a playlist. Something different for me.
Head Over Heels – Tears For Fears
OMG, I just heard this song on the radio, and was thinking of using it for a “Remember That Song?” post:
Is There Something I Should Know – Duran Duran
I think there may be 1 or 2 of you out there who may like this one. Any
Stuck in the ’80s fans out there? Sing it with me: PPTMN!!
And We Danced – The Hooters
LOVE. IT. I’ll be rewinding this and watch it again!
Breakfast In Bed – UB40 and Chrissie Hynde
Awww!! Last song! I don’t think I ever heard this song in my life. I really like it! Better than “Red, Red Wine”. Happy Birthday again Chrissie Hynde!!
I hope you all enjoyed my lunacy this evening. I don’t go off the deep end too often. And I hope I didn’t annoy too many people by filling up their newsfeed. But, I had fun!
