Quote of the Day: Ruthless People

Sam Stone: What’s this phone call about?

Ken Kessler: We call to make you an offer. An offer you can’t refuse.

Sam Stone: Low?

Sam Stone: Fat chance!

Ken Kessler: Mr. Stone, this is no joke! We’re desperate people! We…

Sam Stone: Time out! I believe this is a joke pal and you’re it! The last time we spoke you said my wife would be in the morgue if I didn’t pay. Well, I didn’t pay and just today I was at the morgue and she wasn’t there. You lied to me! You know what I think?

Ken Kessler: No.

Sam Stone: You got no nuts! What do I have to do? Put a gun in your hand, aim and pull your finger down you spineless wimp! I dare you to kill her!

[Sam hangs up]

Sam Stone: Now that oughta do it!

Daily Trivia: 6/14/12

Question: Which of Fat Albert’s friends peered out of eye holes in his stocking cap?

Last Question: In Ruthless People, who played kidnapper Ken Kessler?

Answer: Judge Reinhold

Judge Reinhold was popular in the ’80s, starring in movies such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, the Beverly Hills Cop series, Vice Versa, and Ruthless People.

Ruthless People had a great cast. Besides Judge Reinhold, the movie starred Danny DeVito, Bette Midler, Helen Slater (Supergirl), and Bill Pullman, and was directed by David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker, best known for the Airplane! and Naked Gun movies. Although they directed this movie, Ruthless People was more of a dark comedy as opposed to zany slapstick.

Judge Reinhold and Helen Slater play Ken and Sandy Kessler. They want revenge on their ex-boss Sam (Danny DeVito) for stealing Sandy’s fashion design, along with the Kesslers’ life savings. So they kidnap Sam’s wife (Bette Midler) to get revenge and extort money from him. They soon realize he does not want her back and was planning to kill her himself.

The movie was a smash hit grossing $71,600,000 at the box office.
